rvdg arquitectura + urbanismo: thinking beyond the station

The mexican federal government initiated four years ago strategic planning and urbanpolicies for reactivating public transportation and suburban trains in the whole country.after line 1 was completed, running from buenavista to cuautitlan in the state of mexicoin 2007, aguascalientes suburban train represents the second project in massive transportation for the nation, followed by lines 2 and 3 in mexico currently in feasibilitystudies.'thinking beyond the station' by mexican firm rvdg arquitectura + urbanismo is a proposal for the aguascalientes suburban train station. taking into consideration the historic context and its value they inserted a strong piece of architecture in the project, that rearticulates exchanges, flows and the entire urban fabric,as an opportunity to reinvent this part of the city and reinsert it into a new corridor for development. it is translated into an elliptical pedestrian 'ring' and train station that symbolizes integration of diversity, integration of past and future. a new landmark for the city wherepassengers, workers and communities around them are integrated without spatial barriers,it functions as a bridge, as an urban balcony that provides views from trescenturias complex.
